About The Novel:

As soon as he entered the house, his gaze went straight to the angelic figure sleeping on the sofa, lost in deep slumber with her head resting against the backrest. Her head had drooped to one side, while her dupatta covered her entire body well, though she looked quite cautious even in her sleep. Meesam took in a full view of her in just a few moments, and for a second, astonishment gripped him. Whether it was the effect of his father’s words, his friends’, or his own inner voice, he reached her side in a flash. She was still dressed in her evening attire, everything just as it had been. She looked so captivating while sleeping that he couldn’t help but gaze at her. On the other side, feeling the intense warmth of his fixed stare upon her, she woke up from her sleep.
“Relax, take it easy,” he said, using hand gestures to tell her to stay calm as he watched her startle awake in a daze.
“Yes… you’ve arrived,” she quickly fixed her appearance, adjusted the dupatta on her head, and addressed him.
“I have arrived, but why are you sleeping here in the lounge like this?” he asked angrily. After all, she was his wife; what if a servant had suddenly walked in? Thinking this, he grew furious.
“Well, I was waiting for you, and I didn’t even realize when I fell asleep,” she hesitated, rubbing her hands together and keeping her gaze lowered, misinterpreting the anger in his tone.
“Why were you waiting for me? Did I ask you to?” he said in a sarcastic tone, at which she fell silent for a second, but then mustered the courage to speak.
“No, you didn’t ask me to wait, I know that, but I was doing it on my own. Don’t I even have that much right?”
“Why were you waiting for me?” he asked, exasperated.
“You hadn’t eaten, and all the servants had already gone to sleep, so I was waiting for you so that if you came, someone would be there to warm up your food,” she explained openly, looking at him with a reproachful gaze, which made him press his lips tight.
“There’s no need to exhaust yourself worrying about me. Better mind your own business; I have a wife who is enough to take care of me.” Instantly forgetting everything else, he turned back into the cold Meesam, while Meliha’s heart longed to say, “I am your wife too,” but she stayed silent, swallowing her tears.
“Did you understand what I said? From now on, don’t do me this favor,” he said with displeasure, clasping his hands together.
“Meesam, I am not saying anything to you, but don’t I even have that little right?” As he stood up to leave, she quickly got up and grabbed his hand, while Meesam stood frozen at her audacity, looking back and forth between her and his own hand that Meliha was holding.
“I don’t ask you for anything, but just providing a house and money isn’t everything. I am human too, and now I have just as much right over you as Tasha Aaji (Apy) does. But I never told you—I would never want to take Tasha Apy’s place. But please, Meesam, carve out a little time for me in this life of yours. I am so lonely; can’t you spare just a little time for me?” she said in a voice trembling with deep sorrow, freezing Meesam’s heartbeats. For a second, he felt like a monster, while Meliha let go of his hand and turned away to hide her tears. Before he could say anything to her, he turned abruptly at the sound of Tasha’s voice, while Meliha’s retreating footsteps froze in their tracks.
“So this is what’s going on here! Leaving me alone since evening, you are still busy with her. Didn’t you think of me at all?” Tasha said to Meesam in a fiercely sarcastic tone filled with bitter displeasure, which left him rattled by her unexpected arrival.
“What do you mean by ‘what’s going on’? Meesam is my husband, not some boyfriend, for you to talk like this!” Meliha couldn’t bear it and spoke up.
“I wasn’t talking to you! I wouldn’t even deign to look at a woman like you. You had your eyes on my husband right from the beginning!” Tasha shrieked with utter insolence, while Meliha felt as though she had been stabbed by the accusation. She cast a reproachful look at Meesam, who, for reasons unknown, averted his eyes from her.
“Don’t cross your limits, Tasha Apy. I don’t spare anyone who questions my character, but I am showing restraint because of your age,” Meliha said with immense self-control. This was their very first direct conversation since the wedding, while Meesam stood trapped in a strange dilemma.
“Why shouldn’t I speak? Your intentions were foul right from the start! That’s when you didn’t refuse when the marriage with Meesam was proposed. You are the one who ruined my home, and I won’t spare you!” she ranted like a fool, rushing forward to pounce on her, but Meesam quickly stepped in between to stop her.
“What has gotten into you, Tasha? What are you saying?” he addressed her in a fairly soft voice.
“You stay out of it! Get out of my way! I won’t spare her today,” she shouted, pushing him aside in a frenzied manner and moving forward to attack again, but Meesam thwarted her attempt once more, while Meliha stepped back two paces in fear.
“Meliha, go to your room! And you, come away from here, have you gone mad?” he said softly to Meliha while rebuking Tasha, and Meliha hurried away towards the room.
“You… you are going to talk to me like this? You are going to snap at me? See? You changed in just a single day! So you too turned out to be a worshiper of beauty…”
“Tasha, stop it, enough is enough! All this is just a product of your imagination and nothing else,” he said angrily, shaking her by the shoulders, whereupon she instantly flung her arms around his neck and burst into tears.
