“I am not that illiterate. I know my A-B-C and Alif-B, Amma taught me!” she snapped angrily, as a few books lay open in front of her while Zariam tried to teach her the alphabet.
Instead of getting upset, Zariam simply kept a tight lid on his smile as she folded her arms across her chest, closed her eyes like an obedient child, and began reciting the A-B-C for him.
“Wow, Hoorib! I actually thought you were uneducated. Look at you, you’re quite literate,” he teased. At his words, Hoorib proudly tossed her head and puffed out her chest.
“Alright, let me teach you some basic things then.”
“I don’t want to learn. You’ve kept me sitting here for ages, just let me go, for God’s sake!”
At that moment, the two of them were sitting directly on the carpet, with merely inches of space separating them—a distance Zariam closed the very second she finished speaking.
Catching her by the waist, Zariam lifted her slightly and pulled her straight into his lap.
“When you’re calling me ‘meri jaan’ (my life), how can I possibly let you go?” Zariam asked, gazing down at her with a mischievous glint in his eyes.
Hoorib raised her gaze to look at the man before her. That handsome, dimpled face framed by a thick beard and heavy mustache belonged entirely to her—the very thought was utterly mesmerizing.
“Let me go.”

“واؤ حوریب میں تو تمہیں جاہل سمجھتا تھا تم تو پڑھی لکھی ہو” اسکے کہنے پر حوریب نے فخر سے گردن اکڑائی
“اچھا تو میں تمہیں کچھ بیسک چیزیں سکھا دیتا ہوں”
“نہیں سیکھنی اتنی دیر سے یہاں بٹھایا ہوا ہے چھوڑ دے میری جان”
اس وقت وہ دونوں کارپٹ پر بیٹھے ہوے تھے جبکہ ان دونوں کے درمیان صرف چند انچ کا فاصلہ تھا جو اسکی بات سنتے ہی زریام نے مٹا دیا
اسے کمر سے پکڑ کر زریام نے ہلکا سا اٹھا کر اسے اپنی گود میں بٹھا لیا
“اب جان کہہ رہی ہو تو چھوڑ کیسے دوں” زریام نے شرارتی نظروں سے اسکی طرف دیکھا
حوریب نے نظریں اٹھا کر اس شخص کو دیکھا گھنی گھنی داڑھی مونچھوں سمیت وہ ڈمپل والا خوبرو مرد صرف اسکا تھا یہ سوچ ہی کتنی دلکش تھی
“چھوڑ مجھے”
“چھوڑ مجھے نہیں چھوڑیں مجھے بلکہ چھوڑنے کی بات ہی کیوں کرنی ہے ہم پکڑنے کی بات کرتے ہیں نہ” اسکی گردن پر ہاتھ رکھ کر زریام نے اسکا چہرہ خود کے قریب کیا اور اسکے لبوں پر جھک گیا
حوریب نے بنا کوئی مزاحمت کیے اسکے گردن میں اپنے بازو ڈال دیے اور اسکا یہ انداز زریام کو مزید بہکا چکا تھا
“کمرے نہیں ہیں آپ لوگوں کے پاس” شاہ میر کی صدمے سے بھری آواز سنتے ہی وہ دونوں ایک دوسرے سے دور ہوے حوریب تو اسکی گود سے اٹھ کر کمرے سے بھاگ چکی تھی
جبکہ زریام اپنی مونچھیں سنوارتا ہوا ادھر ادھر دیکھ رہا تھا
“لالا یہ اسٹڈی روم ہے یہ پڑھنے کے لیے ہوتا ہے”
“ہاں تو میں اسے پڑھا ہی رہا تھا”
“آپ اسے پڑھا نہیں رہے تھے بائیولوجی سکھا رہے تھے” شاہ میر کے کہنے پر زریام نے گھور کر اسے دیکھا۔
